FAQs
Installation
How easy is it to remove a TruckBoss Deck?
Removing a TruckBoss Deck is fast and straightforward. The deck surface is secured with four to five brackets using carriage bolts. Simply remove the bolts, take off the rear flap, disconnect the wiring, and lift the deck off the truck bed.
For even faster removal, our Snap Lock Quick Mount System makes the process tool-free and takes less than five minutes. It’s a perfect add-on for users who want the flexibility to switch between a full truck bed and a fully equipped deck system—no hassle, no downtime.
Can I move my TruckBoss Deck to a different truck?
Yes, you can move your TruckBoss Deck to a different truck—especially if the new truck has the same bed length. In most cases, the deck can be transferred with minimal parts or adjustment.
That said, TruckBoss decks are extremely adaptable and can be made to fit virtually any pickup. Length is the primary factor to consider. It’s much easier to trim a longer deck down to fit a shorter bed than to extend a short deck to fit a long bed.
For customers upgrading or switching trucks, we offer conversion kits that include replacement rails, side panels, and extension panels to ensure a proper fit on your new vehicle.
Do I drill through the deck to mount accessories?
Never. TruckBoss Decks are engineered to mount securely without drilling into your truck. Instead, we use our integrated BoltLocxx™ capture channels throughout the deck surface, cab guard, and sides to mount accessories and hardware.
This channel system gives you unlimited bolt placement, making it the most adaptable mounting platform on the market. Whether you’re securing tie-downs, winches, or custom gear, TruckBoss makes it easy—no holes, no compromises.
How long does a typical TruckBoss Deck install take?
A standard TruckBoss Deck takes about three hours to install using basic tools. Add extra time if you’re including accessories like the Carbide Protection Kit, deck extensions, or a winch system. While one person can handle most of the setup, having an extra set of hands is helpful during some steps.
For first-time installs, expect it to take a little longer as you familiarize yourself with the components. However, all TruckBoss modules come pre-assembled and are designed to be built directly onto your truck. This approach not only simplifies installation—it also keeps our freight costs lower than other deck systems. Each deck ships palletized via LTL freight, saving you time and money right from the start.
Is the TruckBoss Deck waterproof and secure?
Absolutely. TruckBoss is the only truck deck system on the market that is 100% waterproof and fully secure—thanks to our exclusive DryLocxx™ system. This isn’t just a rubber gasket; it’s the way the deck seals and attaches to your truck.
Whether you use our standard mounting system or the Snap Lock Quick Mount, your gear stays dry and protected from weather, dust, and—let’s be honest—the occasional curious critter. TruckBoss keeps your gear safe, secure, and adventure-ready.
Do you make a deck that fits a midsize truck with a 60" (5') bed?
You bet we do. In fact, TruckBoss is the only truck deck company that offers full-featured systems specifically for midsize trucks like the Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, and Frontier.
Our modular rails attach perfectly to smaller truck beds, using the same waterproof and secure DryLocxx™ system found on our full-size models. The deck is ideal for hauling dirt bikes, ATVs, and—with the optional Flip Extension—even snowmobiles. If you want to haul it, TruckBoss can handle it—no compromises, no shortcuts.
Can you load a PWC Flexxloader directly from the deck to the water?
Absolutely—it’s one of the best things about the TruckBoss + FlexxLoader setup. With our system, you don’t need a boat ramp or a trailer. Just back up to the edge, unstrap, and launch your PWC directly from the deck into the water.
The FlexxLoader rides on its own rails and, with our winch system and PushBack system add-on, slides your PWC right into the water—or pulls it back up just as easily. Whether you’re beach launching or setting up at a remote lakeside spot, you’re free to go where trailers can’t.
One truck. One deck. Unlimited access.
Waterproof and Lockable Truck Deck Storage Starts Here
Is the deck completely sealed?
Yes—it’s fully sealed on all sides using our exclusive DryLocxx™ system. The rails on each side lock in the deck panels with watertight capture channels. The front bulkhead seals off the cab side, and the rear flapper creates a tight seal at the tailgate.
This three-point sealing system keeps out water, dust, snow, and road grime—protecting your gear in any environment. Whether you’re hauling sleds through powder or backing into a lake to launch a PWC, your under-deck storage stays dry and secure.
How secure is a TruckBoss Deck?
TruckBoss turns your truck bed into a vault. Once installed, the deck surface and storage area are fully enclosed and inaccessible from the outside. The system mounts inside your truck box, so there’s no external access point—and the deck itself is not removable without opening the tailgate.
All components are built from heavy-gauge, double-walled aluminum, making it as tough as it is secure. If your truck doesn’t have an OEM tailgate lock, there are affordable aftermarket options that complete the lock-and-seal protection system.
Bottom line? When the tailgate’s locked, so is everything under your TruckBoss Deck.
Trailers & Towing
Can I tow a trailer with a TruckBoss Deck installed and loaded?
Yes—you absolutely can. A TruckBoss Deck is designed to maintain full towing functionality when properly installed. An 8-foot deck on a long-bed truck won’t extend past the bumper. A 7-foot deck on a standard-box truck typically ends flush with or just slightly beyond the bumper, depending on your truck model. Either way, you’ll still be able to tow without issue.
If you’re hauling a long-track snowmobile or using the FlexxLoader with a PWC, we recommend adding a hitch extension. This backs the trailer up just enough—especially those with short tongues—to give you two big advantages:
-
You can open your tailgate to access your dry and secure under-deck gear.
-
You maintain full turning radius and trailer clearance when backing up or cornering.
We suggest checking out the Torklift Super Hitch—a heavy-duty extension system from a crew that builds solid truck gear just like we do.
Do I need a Flip Extension for my TruckBoss Deck?
It depends on two things: your truck bed length and what you’re hauling. If you’re running a standard or short-bed truck and hauling a long-track snowmobile, large Side-by-Side, or a FlexxLoader with a PWC, you’ll likely need a Flip Extension to safely support the full length of your setup.
It’s just math—but we’ve done the hard part for you. Our team can help you determine exactly what you need. While we’ll always give a nod to long-bed trucks, TruckBoss decks are built to work perfectly with any bed size, and the Flip Extension is a smart, simple upgrade when you need that extra reach.
Specifications and real world questions
What is the weight rating on a TruckBoss Deck?
The TruckBoss Deck is rated to handle up to 2,000 lbs (900 kg) of distributed load. But here’s the real-world answer: the limiting factor isn’t the deck—it’s your truck. Your vehicle’s payload capacity (GVWR) ultimately determines how much weight you can safely carry.
That said, TruckBoss decks are built to take on serious loads—whether you’re hauling a pair of long-track snowmobiles, a UTV, motorcycles, or loading up with commercial tools and jobsite gear. Our all-aluminum, double-walled design gives you unmatched strength, durability, and peace of mind.
In short: if your truck can handle it, so can TruckBoss.
What is the weight rating of the TruckBoss ramps?
TruckBoss offers a range of ramp options, each built to handle serious loads:
-
Skinny Ramps (used as a pair): Rated for 3,000 lbs (1,360 kg)
-
Fat Ramps (48″ and 52″ wide): Rated for 1,500 lbs (680 kg)
-
FlexxLoader Ramp: Rated for 1,500 lbs (680 kg)
All TruckBoss ramps feature UHMW sliders on the male end, providing a super-smooth loading surface that resists wear and keeps things quiet. Whether you’re loading sleds, bikes, or a fully loaded FlexxLoader, our ramps are built for long-lasting performance you can trust.
How much does the TruckBoss deck weigh?
TruckBoss Decks are engineered to be strong, yet impressively lightweight. Here’s a breakdown by deck length:
-
8-foot deck: 500 lbs (227 kg)
-
7-foot deck: 450 lbs (204 kg)
-
6-foot deck: 400 lbs (181 kg)
-
5-foot deck: 350 lbs (159 kg)
Optional accessories like the SmartBoxx™, winch kits, double rails, and Flip Extensions will add to the total system weight, so it’s always a good idea to check your truck’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) when planning your setup.
Thanks to our fully extruded aluminum construction, TruckBoss remains one of the lightest and strongest deck systems available—delivering maximum strength without overloading your rig.
Will new TruckBoss accessories work with my older deck?
Absolutely. TruckBoss has been manufacturing decks since 2008, and we’ve built every generation around our proven BoltLocxx™ mounting system. That means today’s accessories—and even future ones—will work seamlessly with your older deck.
So whether you’re upgrading to a new SmartBoxx™, adding a winch kit, or mounting gear for that alien spacecraft you just picked up, you’re good to go—no matter how old your deck is.
Will the aluminum on the TruckBoss Deck oxidize over time?
Not if we can help it. All aluminum surfaces on the TruckBoss Deck—including the deck surface, cab guard, rails, and sides—are anodized to protect against oxidation and corrosion. We also use the highest-grade aluminum available, so your deck stays looking sharp and functional for years.
That said, like anything exposed to the elements, a little care goes a long way. Regular cleaning helps extend the life and finish of your deck—because, let’s face it, even the best gear eventually faces the dust.
Need to freshen things up? We manufacture all parts in-house, and our Freshen-Up Kit includes the most commonly replaced wear parts for easy ordering and quick maintenance.
